Water Saving Opportunities for Commercial Indoor Processes and Irrigation

Water rates are increasing by 10 per cent each year which is an ongoing challenge for building owners and property/facility managers are under pressure to reduce operating costs. The Region of Peel and Regional Municipality of York offer programs aimed to improve water operations that also reduce costs. This session will review what is involved in a water assessment and the benefits of participating in our programs. Justin Comacchio, Technical Analyst, Environmental Education, Operations Support, Public Works, Region of Peel
Justin has been working as a professional in water efficiency with the Region of Peel since 2015. He assists in the development of market transformation programs that address outdoor water efficiency targets. Justin is currently managing the Water Smart Irrigation Professional Program and his experience working with industry and partner organizations like Landscape Ontario and York Region has helped to increase program reach.

Mahrukh Jawaid, Program Manager, Water Conservation and Efficiency, ENV - Infrastructure Asset Management
​
Mahrukh Jawaid is a professional engineer with over 7 years of experience in the fields of water conservation, wastewater treatment, and, inflow and infiltration reduction. Currently, she works for the Regional Municipality of York as a Program Manager in the Environmental Services group. She manages a highly talented team in the areas of water, wastewater and energy efficiency.
Heather Macnab, Environmental Programs Coordinator, Water Conservation and Efficiency, ENV- Infrastructure Asset Management

Heather Macnab is a certified technologist and has been working for the Region of York in water conservation and efficiency since 2015. One of her main responsibilities is managing the Water Smart Irrigation Professional Program in partnership with Landscape Ontario and the Region of Peel, which aims to reduce outdoor peak water demand.
